What is Jule Lukket? (closed for the holidays)

Christmas is a big holiday in Denmark. Most shops are closed on the 24th-26th (both days included) and again on the 31st + January 1st.

Some of the smaller supermarkets will be open on specific times, maybe for a shorter period than normal. Each supermarket chain will have this on their website – look for åbningstider (i julen).

If you attend a sport, they will most likely also take a holiday break over Christmas and New Year – your local coach will know.

This year many of the days off over the holidays are during a weekend, but you will most likely experience that your Danish colleagues will take at least the week between the 24th and 31st off – many also some days before and after.

If you plan on working over the holidays, make sure to ask your manager what he/she expects in regard to e.g., the days that are national holidays and home office (do you have to come to the office, when so many are on vacation).
