Dear all,

December is here is a few days - which also means the end of 2024 and Christmas time for many, which is refleceted in the below events.

Please note that all events are for everyone, which means you do not have to celebrate Christmas or be religious to participate. And as you can see; PLENTY of options to try æbleskiver & gløgg

Also be aware that as most Danes celebrate Christmas the shops' opening hours are affected by the holidays and many supermarkets will be closed on e.g. the 25th, 26th and January 1st. Check your local store's website – even within chains (like Netto) it varies which are open and closed.

The King's first New Years speech - December 31st

His Majesty King Frederik X will deliver his first New Year's speech in 2024.

The King ascended to the throne after his mother on January 14th, this year. Queen Margrethe II chose to abdicate on New Year's Eve 2023 – a decision that broke with tradition in Denmark and surprised many Danes.

King Frederik has earlier in the year stated that he will continue the traditional speech and made a promise regarding the content of his speech;

"I don't know much more right now. However, I can safely promise that you will hear me say the words God bless Denmark." (just as his mother always did).

On December 31st at 18.00/6pm you will be able to watch the speech live on the national Danish channels DR and TV2.
